East Algoma OPP Press Releases

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On June 23, 2016, shortly after 3:00 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to domestic dispute in the Town of Blind River.

Police attended a residence where the victim was. As a result of the investigation a 20 year old male from Blind River Blind River, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

Assault –Spousal (X2), contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code ; and

Assault with a Weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on August 4, 2016.

MALE CHARGE WITH POSSESSION

(TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE, ON)- On June 23, 2016, shortly after 11:00 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver that had just left the Town of Spanish and was westbound on Highway 17.

Police observed the vehicle that matched the description travelling westbound. A traffic stop was initiated.

As a result of the investigation, there was a small amount of Cannabis Marihuana resin found in vehicle and the driver was also found to be a suspended driver.

Andrew BARBE, 27 years of age, from Serpent River, Ontario, was charged with:

Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Resin – Under 1 gram, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act ;

Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);

Driver Fail to Surrender Licence, contrary to section 33(1) of the HTA; and

Fail to surrender Insurance Card, contrary to section 3(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on August 3, 2016 for the criminal offence and on August 4, 2016 for the provincial offence.

MALE CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT

(MISSISSAUGA FIRST NATION, ON) – On June 20, 2016, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a complaint of a female that had been sexually assaulted the day prior.

In the early hours of June 20, 2016 the victim called a male for a ride home.

Charles CHIBLOW, 53 years of age from Mississauga First Nation, Ontario, was arrested and charged with: Sexual Assault, contrary to section 271 of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on August 4, 2016.
