Northumberland Weekly News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 178 incidents over this three day period, here are some examples:

June 27:

A black 200cc Suzuki dirt bike was reported stolen sometime over the past week from a Georgina St residence in Brighton

Police stood by at an Alnwick-Haldimand Twp home while an ex-partner took possession of the residence that was awarded to him by the courts.

Two local men were charged with liquor offences at the Crowe Bridge Conservation Area in Trent Hills.

A white Savana van struck a moose on County Rd 41 near County Rd 26 in Brighton at 10pm. The driver, who received minor injuries, was transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance. Damage to the vehicle was extensive requiring it to be towed from the scene. The moose was not located.

June 28:

A Brighton homeowner contacted police on advice of his lawyer after a paving company started work on his driveway on behalf of the new owner prior to the closing date. Officers provided further advice in the event that the company didn’t cease work as he requested. No further calls were received.

Police responded to a bank alarm in Campbellford. Officers were unable to determine the cause of the alarm and everything appeared secure.

A Brighton family called police after their adult son became violent towards them and started to destroy the house. Officers apprehended him and took him to a nearby hospital for assessment and treatment.

June 29:

Report of windows from a brand new Jeep being taken from the Chrysler dealership lot in Campbellford overnight. Investigation ongoing.

Police were called to a Brighton home for an out-of-control 9 yr old child. Advice was given to family members.

Police responded to a report of an intoxicated patron on a double decker bus causing a disturbance and smoking while travelling on Hwy 401 in the Grafton area. The bus pulled to the side of the highway where officers arrested the 54 yr old Toronto area man for being intoxicated in a public place. He was charged with that offence plus Possession of a Schedule II substance: cannabis marijuana under 30g, obstructing a peace officer and causing a disturbance. He was held at the Cobourg detachment until sober then released with an impending court date in August 2016.

**Notable Incidents: Northumberland OPP also investigated five accidental 911 calls, 12 motor vehicle collisions, and 33 traffic related complaints during this time period.
