(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 225 incidents over this four day period, here are some examples:
July 11:
Police attended a Seymour Twp home for a domestic dispute which resulted in one partner being taken to a nearby hospital due to threats of self-harm. Several firearms were seized by officers for safety reasons. A firearms prohibition hearing has been set to determine the suitability of this individual to possess the firearms. No charges resulted from the investigation.
Report of unlocked vehicles entered sometime overnight on Behan Rd Hamilton Twp. Money and cigarettes were taken.
A lawyer requested assistance enforcing a family court order on behalf of her client in Hamilton Twp. Advice was provided to the caller.
July 12:
Two suspicious males in a white Chrysler minivan were observed at 12:30am on Chatten Rd Brighton attempting to enter unlocked vehicles in driveways. The callers’ vehicle was locked and hence, not entered. Officers attended the area but were unable to locate the van.
Police are investigating a complaint of a male looking in the windows of an Ontario St Brighton home at 12:38am. The homeowner challenged the man who fled on foot southbound and was described as dressed in all black with a ‘gruff’ adult voice. Officers were unable to locate the suspect.
Report of unlocked vehicles entered overnight on Jean Davey Rd and Nagle Rd in Hamilton Twp.
A Cramahe Twp resident reported what he thought were exorbitant credit card charges that he incurred when out of country at a men’s entertainment club in Europe. Advice was given with no further action by police.
A fight in Campbellford involving several individuals at 12:31pm resulted in charges of Spousal Assault against one involved person.
July 13:
Two red cars and the four occupants were spoken to by police after a complaint of erratic driving and suspicious behaviour was received in the downtown Colborne area at 1:33am. They advised police that they were playing a reality game. No charges resulted.
Several persons were reportedly stealing liquor from camp sites at Presqu’ile Provincial Park at 2:47am. Two males were identified and charged under the Provincial Parks Act for being in the park when closed with further charges expected on other suspects.
Warkworth Institution reported $8,000 damages to a fire panel inside the penitentiary. Investigation ongoing.
A 34 yr old local man was arrested and charged for being intoxicated in a public place after reports were received about a man indiscriminately yelling that he was hiding from the police behind businesses in downtown Brighton. The man, who was not wanted by police, was held at the Brighton detachment until he was sober.
A Campbellford tenant reported that his landlord removed the front and back doors to his unit apparently as a result of past due rent. Officers contacted the landlord who advised he was simply repairing the doors.
July 14:
Police assisted Municipal officials who attended a Port Hope residence to serve a notice relating to property standards violations.
A Port Hope resident reported an elderly man wandering the area of County Rd 65 and County Rd 2 at 10pm. Officers located the man and took him to a nearby hospital for assessment and treatment for possible mental health issues.
A Colborne tenant reported that his landlord reminded him of past due rent and wanted to know if this constituted harassment. Officers advised the tenant that the landlord was within his rights to this. Police would ask the public to contact the Landlord and Tenant Board at 1-888-332-3234 or visit http://www.sjto.gov.on.ca/ltb/ for civil matters related to landlord/tenant issues.
**Northumberland OPP officers also investigated nine accidental 911 calls, 10 motor vehicle collisions, 48 traffic related complaints and conducted two RIDE programs during this time period.
