(ESPANOLA, ON)-On July 9, 2016, at approximately 9:46 p.m., members of the Espanola Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) initiated a traffic stop on Highway 17, east of the Town of Webbwood.
During the traffic stop, it was determined that the driver had consumed alcohol. As a result of the investigation, Anthony PELLETIER, 19 years of age, from Birch Island, was arrested and charged with the following:
Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
Speeding, contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act
Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit, contrary to section 7(1)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act
Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle, contrary to section 7(5)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act
Driver – Fail to properly wear seat belt, contrary to section 106(2) of the Highway Traffic Act
Novice driver – Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) above zero, contrary to section 44.1(3) of the Highway Traffic Act
Novice driver fail to surrender licence, contrary to section 48.1(5) of the Highway Traffic Act
Fail to surrender insurance card, contrary to section 3(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
The accused driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle he was operating was impounded for seven (7) days.
The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola, on August 2, 2016, to answer to his charges.
The OPP is reminding motorists that there is no safe amount of alcohol or drug consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
