Police Identify Deceased Man Found In Lake Erie

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haldimand County Detachment investigated an incident at a Lake Erie, Port Maitland, Haldimand County, Ontario address.

On Thursday, August 4, 2016 at approximately 8:03 a.m., OPP, along with the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, Port Dover Coast Guard and members from the Niagara Regional Police Service Marine Unit responded to Lake Erie after being contacted by a concerned boater.

Through the course of investigation, it has been determined that a boating enthusiast was travelling on Lake Erie off the shore of Port Maitland when they observed what appeared to be a deceased person floating in the water.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., members from the Niagara Regional Police Service Marine Unit located an unidentified male approximately 8.5 miles from the shore line.

37-year-old Guiseppe Ernesto REINHART of Niagara, Ontario was subsequently brought back to shore and was pronounced deceased by the attending coroner.

No foul play is suspected and the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Members of the OPP Haldimand Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services along with the Niagara Regional Police District 3 Criminal Investigative Branch assisted with the investigation.
