(ELGIN COUNTY, ON) – Elgin County OPP was dispatched to a three vehicle motor vehicle collision (MVC) just south of the intersection at Highbury Avenue and Ferguson Line. This MVC occurred around 11:40a.m. on the 5th of August 2016.
St. Thomas Elgin EMS attended the scene as well as Central Elgin Fire fighters. Both firefighters and paramedics assisted the involved people in the MVC.
A white Sterling dump truck was travelling northbound on Highbury Avenue, south of Ferguson Line, in Central Elgin, Ontario. The dump truck veered into the southbound lane, and struck a black Dodge car, which was travelling southbound on Highbury Avenue. The dump truck then struck a silver Dodge pickup truck head on. The pickup truck was travelling southbound on Highbury Avenue behind the Dodge car.
As a result of the MVC, St. Thomas Elgin paramedics transported 4 people to hospital.
The driver of the dump truck, a 42-year-old male from London, Ontario, was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and has been discharged.
The driver of the car, a 43-year-old female, from Strathroy Caradoc, Ontario, was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and has been discharged.
The passenger of the car, a 24-year-old male passenger, from London, Ontario, was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and has been discharged.
The driver of the pickup truck was transported to hospital in critical condition, but has since died from his injuries. He has been identified as 47-year-old David GUENTHER, from Bayham, Ontario.
The passenger of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 20-year-old Hakeem KRAHN, from Malahide, Ontario.
The OPP’s Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) attended the scene to conduct their investigation into the potential causes of this fatal MVC.
The incident is still under investigation.
