Sleeping On Side Of Road With $258,000 In Drugs Leads To Charges For 22 Year Old – Name Released

(JOHNSON, TOWNSHIP, ON) – On August 6, 2016, shortly after 2:30 a.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol duties on Highway 17 in Johnson Township west of Desbarats.

Police observed a pick-up truck stopped on the westbound shoulder on Highway 17 facing the wrong direction. A male was observed in the driver’s seat to be sleeping. While police were attempting to wake the driver, officers observed a large vacuum sealed plastic bag of Cannabis Marihuana. The male was arrested and the vehicle was searched.

Seize from the vehicle was over 7900 grams of Cannabis Marihuana, over 1000 grams of Psilocybin, over 80 grams of Cannabis Resin, over 300 grams of Cocaine and over 100 Oxycodone pills. The estimated street value of all the drugs seized is approximately at $258,500.

Mathew ABLESON, 22 years of age, from Macdonald-Meredith-Aberdeen Additional Township, Ontario, was charged with:

Care or Control While Impaired (Drug), contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code;

Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine (2X) contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA);

Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Over 3 kilograms, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA;

Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Under 3 kilograms, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA;

Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Other Drugs (X2), contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA; and

Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana- Under 30 grams, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA.

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on August 9, 2016.
