(Algonquin Highlands, ON) –On Sunday August 21, 2016 at approximately 3:51pm Haliburton Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a report of a possible impaired driver. Officers attended the area of North Shore road, in response to the report and located the vehicle and driver.
During the investigation it was determined that the driver had consumed alcohol. The male was arrested and transported to the Haliburton Highlands OPP Detachment for testing. As a result of the investigation 53 year old Darko KNEZEVIC of Algonquin Highlands has been charged with:
Driving while ability impaired by alcohol– motor vehicle contrary to section 253(1)(a) CCC Criminal Code of Canada
Driving with more than 80mgs of alcohol in 100mls of blood contrary to section 253(1)(b) CCC Criminal Code of Canada
The accused also received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension. He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Minden on October 5, 2016
The Haliburton Highlands OPP is reminding motorists that any amount of alcohol or other drugs can impair one’s ability to drive. If you plan on drinking alcohol or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi, or stay overnight.
