Child With No Helmet Being Towed By Mother’s Vehicle Prompts Call To Police

(ELGIN COUNTY, ON) – On the 4th of September 2016 Elgin County O.P.P were contacted when a motorist observed a youth being pulled behind a motor vehicle in Central Elgin, ON.

Police were able to locate a Chevy SUV on Yarmouth Center Rd, with what appeared to be a youth with no helmet on being pulled.

The driver, the youth’s mother told police that she was only towing her son at 10km/h so he could see what it would be like.

The officer at the scene issued the mother a Provincial Offences Noticed for:

– Permitting attachment to vehicle contrary to section 160 of the Highway Traffic Act.

This section states “No driver of a vehicle or street car shall permit any person riding upon a bicycle, coaster, roller skates, skis, toboggan, sled or any toy vehicle to attach the same, himself or herself to the vehicle or street car”

The youth was warned about not wearing a helmet.

Elgin County O.P.P are urging motorist to use common sense when travelling on the roadways.
