(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 218 incidents over the Labour Day long weekend, here are some examples:
Sept 2:
A family dispute in Campbellford resulted in an adult brother being banned from attending his sister’s residence.
Report of two missing pigs that had escaped through a hole in a fence from a Concession Road 14 East farm in Trent Hills. Officers patrolled the area but were unable to locate them.
Report of youths smashing bottles on Centre St in Brighton at 10:30pm. Officers located the youths and stood by while they cleaned up the mess. No charges resulted.
Sept 3:
A Hamilton Twp youth and an adult male in Brighton were located after reports were received that they were thinking of self-harm. Both were transported by officers to a nearby hospital for treatment in these separate incidents.
Report at 6:55am of a black Dodge Caravan colliding into a tree on Danforth Rd West in Hamilton Twp. The driver, who received minor injuries, was found to have been drinking and was arrested. As a result of further tests, Joshua Dylan CRUICKSHANK age 32 of Hamilton Twp, Ontario is charged with Having Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood and Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on October 5, 2016.
At 7:00am an officer measured a red Honda travelling 134 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone on County Rd 30 in Brighton. The driver was found to have been drinking and was arrested. As a result of further tests, Blake Davey RICHARDSON age 21 of Quinte West, Ontario is charged with Having Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood and Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on October 12, 2016.
At 7:27pm police responded to a motor vehicle collision on eastbound Hwy 401 east of County Rd 25 in Cramahe Twp. Officers determined that a grey GMC Envoy had rear ended another car in the passing lane. No one was injured however the driver of the Envoy was found to have been drinking and was arrested. As a result of further tests, Richard EVANS age 56 of Port Hope, Ontario is charged with Having Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on September 21, 2016.
Sept 4:
At 8:48am an officer measured a grey Honda travelling 147 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone on County Rd 41 near County Rd 26 in Brighton. The 18 yr old Brighton driver was charged with Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed. His car was impounded for 7 days and licence suspended for the same period of time.
A 33 yr old Quinte West, Ontario man was arrested and charged with breaching conditions of a prior release after he forced his way into his ex-partner’s residence in Brighton. No-one was injured and he was held for a bail hearing. Names withheld.
Report of persons camping and drinking at Wicklow Beach in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp resulted in six people being charged with Trespassing.
Report of a break-in to a church on Church Hill Rd in Hamilton Twp that occurred between 12noon and 7:00pm. The culprit(s) entered through a basement window and stole the church’s communal wine. Donation boxes were damaged and a wall calendar was broken off of the wall. Investigation ongoing.
Sept 5:
While on patrol on County Rd 45 at 2:05am in the Roseneath area an officer noticed a red pickup truck weaving in its lane. The truck was stopped and the driver was found to have been drinking. Patrick LOREFICE age 27 of Scarborough, Ontario refused to provide a roadside sample of his breath and was arrested and charged with Fail or Refuse to provide sample. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on October 5, 2016.
Report of several youths trespassing at a residence on Nappan Island Rd in Trent Hills. Investigation ongoing.
Police responded to a family dispute in Campbellford involving two adult sisters fighting each other. Both siblings received minor injuries. No charges resulted at the request of both combatants.
At 4:51pm police were dispatched to the Port Hope Onroute service centre where a blue Dodge pickup truck had left without paying for gas ($25.05) striking an employee with the vehicle as it fled the scene. As a result of the investigation, Joel CHARLES age 28 of Cobourg, Ontario is charged with Theft Under $5,000 and Assault with a weapon. He was held for a bail hearing, the employee received minor injuries.
Northumberland OPP officers also investigated eight accidental 911 calls, 15 motor vehicle collisions and 61 traffic related complaints.
