(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 144 incidents this past weekend, here are some examples:
Sept 9:
The owner of a Campbellford storage unit on Doxsee Ave North reported the theft of $500 worth of prime rib meat. A lock was broken to gain entry.
Report of a home break-in on Van Luven Rd in Hamilton Twp between 9:30am – 4:00pm today. The culprits kicked in a side door eventually leaving through the front door. A partial list of stolen items include PANDORA rings, bracelets and necklaces, air soft guns and a Bose speaker. Investigation ongoing.
Report of a home break-in on Telephone Rd in Brighton. Entry was gained through a garage door. Investigation ongoing and list of items taken not available at time of report.
An officer observed a white Yamaha dirt bike being driven at a high rate of speed on Grand Rd in Campbellford at 7:47pm. The rider, who was not wearing a helmet, lost control of his dirt bike on Doxsee Ave South where he was arrested (uninjured) by police. Wesley CAMPBELL age 20 of Campbellford, ON faces the following charges: Careless Driving, Drive motor vehicle with no insurance, licence plates or helmet and driving with no licence. He was released with an impending court date in October 2016.
Sept 10:
Police responded to a domestic disturbance at a Brighton home resulting in one partner being arrested and charged with Spousal Assault. Names withheld.
An auto service shop on County Rd 2 west of Cobourg in Hamilton Twp reported a break-in sometime overnight. The culprit(s) squeezed through a small pipe in a wall to gain entry and stole car batteries, brake lines, cash and one case of NAPA motor oil. Investigation ongoing.
Police investigated a complaint of threats received by a Brighton resident on an online gaming site. No charges resulted and officers from Elgin County OPP cautioned the offending person for improper language.
An Alnwick-Haldimand Twp resident called to advise that he would be skeet shooting in preparation for the upcoming waterfowl season in the event of any calls to police.
Sept 11:
Reports of a tree lying across Sanford St and wires down on Alice St, both in Brighton due to storm.
Theft of $54.21 in diesel gas reported by a Colborne gas station on Big Apple Dr. Suspect vehicle was a grey Jeep with Quebec licence plates last seen entering Hwy 401 at 2:45pm.
Several parents were spoken to by police when their children were observed to be throwing ice at a car in Brighton near the arena.
Northumberland OPP officers also investigated six accidental 911 calls, 10 motor vehicle collisions, 32 traffic related complaints and conducted three RIDE programs over this weekend.
