(ELGIN COUNTY, ON) – On September 13, 2016 around 1:00am Elgin County OPP responded to a public tip of a suspicious vehicle in the area of 4735 Sunset Rd in Central Elgin. Police were able to locate and arrest two parties inside of a stolen vehicle without incident.
The driver of the vehicle, Dylan Novak age 18 of Norfolk County has been charged with:
Adult care or Control While Impaired Contrary to Section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000 contrary to section 355 (b) of the Criminal Code
Fail to comply with Recognizance X3 contrary to Section 145(3) of the Criminal Code.
The passenger of the vehicle, Tristan Stephen age 19 of North Bay, ON has been charged with:
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000 contrary to section 355 (b) of the Criminal Code
Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana contrary to section 4(1) of the Control Drug and Substance Act
Both parties were held for a bail hearing in St. Thomas Criminal Court.
Elgin OPP later responded to another public tip around 5:00am of a vehicle in the ditch on Glen Colin Line in Malahide Township between Hacienda Road and Imperial Road. It was found that the vehicle was also stolen. Police arrested one male party.
The driver, Joseph Penfound age 32 of Petrolia, ON has been charged with:
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000 contrary to section 355 (b) of the Criminal Code
Fail to Comply with Recognizances contrary to Section 145(3) of the Criminal Code.
The accused was held for a bail hearing in St. Thomas Criminal Court.
Throughout the County, 16 stolen vehicles have been reported to Elgin OPP since July 2016. Police are reminding the public to please lock their vehicles and not to leave the keys in the vehicle.
