(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 172 incidents this past weekend, here are some examples:
Sept 23:
A Brighton resident who bought a car from an elderly neighbour reported being harassed by the senior’s power of attorney. Police spoke to all involved and advised them that this was a civil matter.
Police and EMS provided assistance to an elderly Port Hope resident who had fallen down in her home and was unable to get up.
Police responded to a report of an elderly woman wandering in a wooded area in Percy Twp. The caller observed her to walk up a long driveway. Officers located the senior at the end of that driveway which led to her residence. Family members were spoken to and agreed to keep closer watch on their mother who has dementia.
A Brighton resident complained about his neighbours raspberry bush obstructing his view when pulling out of his driveway. He was referred to the Municipality for advice.
Sept 24:
A Brighton resident reported a noise complaint shortly after midnight originating from a local racetrack. He was referred to the Municipality to lodge a complaint.
A Port Hope resident reported a confused senior on Thompson Rd at 6:30pm. Officers attended the area and determined that the man had already been provided assistance by a neighbourhood resident.
Police responded to a report of an erratic driver on Hwy 401 westbound almost side swiping other motorists. The 2016 black Mercedes was located near the Colborne exit and the driver was found to have been drinking. He was arrested and taken to the Brighton detachment for further tests. As a result of these tests, Aliaksandr MATVEYEV age 44 of Belleville, Ontario is charged with Impaired Care & Control of a motor vehicle and Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on October 26, 2016.
Sept 25:
A grey Chev pickup truck was stopped for speeding on County Rd 45 in the Baltimore area at 12:20am. The driver was found to have been drinking. He was arrested and taken to the Cobourg detachment for further tests. As a result of these tests, Kyle Ryan MIDDLETON-LALONDE age 25 of Hamilton Twp is charged with Impaired Care & Control of a motor vehicle and Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on October 26, 2016.
Report of a silver 2000 Chev Malibu Ontario Lic. #BJRF212 stolen from a Pentecostal Road driveway in Hamilton Township sometime overnight. The keys were left in the ignition and a bicycle was left behind by the culprit.
OPP assisted Cobourg Police Service by transporting a dementia sufferer from where he was located in downtown Cobourg to his residence.
A break in was reported to a Brighton children’s clothing store on County Rd 2 sometime overnight. The front doors were forced open by the culprit(s). A list of stolen items not available at time of report.
Northumberland OPP officers also investigated five accidental 911 calls, 12 motor vehicle collisions, 31 traffic related complaints and conducted 13 RIDE programs over this weekend.
