(CLEARVIEW TOWNSHIP, ON.) – On October 13th, 2016 at approximately 12:30 a.m., a member of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was monitoring traffic flow on Hwy #26 north of 27/28 Side Road Nottawasaga and observed a north bound motor vehicle at a high rate of speed. When the Officer activated his emergency lights to stop this motor vehicle that was in fact a motorcycle this vehicle accelerated away at a much high rate of speed.
This motorcycle was again observed by Police traveling north bound on Concession Road 6 where it turned onto Poplar Side Road failing to properly navigate the round-about but continued on Poplar Side Road and approached a RIDE check stop being conducted by members of the Collingwood Detachment of the OPP.
Again this motorcyclist attempted to avoid Police by trying to veer around their parked cruisers but lost control causing both the motorcycle and its operator to hit the ground. A further Police investigation into this driver and vehicle revealed that the driver did not have proof of insurance and that the licence plate on this motor vehicle was not registered to it.
Charged with “Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle” and “Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer” is Raymond G HANCEY 26 years old from the Town of the Blue Mountains. Police have further charged the accused with “Race a Motor Vehicle – Stunt” and “Use plates not authorized for Vehicle” both under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario and “Operate a Motor Vehicle without Insurance” under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act of Ontario. First appearance is November 15th, 2016 in Collingwood court.
