Traffic Stop Leads To Drug And Firearm Charges

(LAMBTON, ON) – On Friday October 14th, 2016, at just after 7:00 p.m., a uniform member of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), while on general patrol, conducted a traffic stop in the area of Esterville Road and Kent Line, Dawn-Euphemia Township for a Highway Traffic Act violation.

During the traffic stop, the officer detected a strong odour of suspected raw cannabis marihuana emanating from the interior of the motor vehicle. Upon speaking with the occupants of the motor vehicle, 279 grams of suspected marihuana and a load black powder .50 calibre rifle was voluntarily surrendered to police. $1420 in Canadian currency was also located and seized in addition to the drugs and firearm.

As a result 33 year old James Albert BARNES of Dresden, ON was arrested and charged with

Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking

Careless Use of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition

Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

Disobey Stop Sign

Driver Fail to Surrender Licence

Also 28 year old Bradley Michael HOLMES of Tilbury, ON was arrested and charged with

Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking

Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There was Firearm

Both accused will appear in the Sarnia Ontario Court of Justice on Monday December 14th, 2016.
