(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Sunday July 24, 2011 at approximately 10:45 p.m. a Perth County OPP officer on patrol observed a car stopped on Victoria Ave. North in Listowel. The driver of the car was spoken to and signs of impairment were detected.
The driver was subsequently directed back to the OPP cruiser at which point he pulled away and ran into a residence on Barber Ave. The officer followed the man into the residence where he was arrested for impaired care or control and flight from police. The male was transported to the North Perth OPP Detachment in Listowel for Intoxilyzer breath tests which he refused to provide.
A search of the man’s car revealed small amounts of suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Scott Poynton (21) of the Municipality of North Perth was charged with the Criminal Code offences of care or control of a motor vehicle, failing to provide a breath sample and flight from police. He has also been charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with possession of a controlled substance (cocaine and marihuana). He is set to appear in Listowel court on September 14, 2011 to answer to these charges. He was served a 90 day drivers licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
