(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) – On Tuesday November 15, 2016, shortly after 6 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to the Food Basics parking lot in Listowel where a pickup truck had struck pedestrians.
Investigation revealed that the driver of a Ford Ranger pickup truck had driven his vehicle at a high rate of speed in the busy parking. The pickup truck struck three pedestrians who were walking from the grocery store to their motor vehicle. The pedestrians were thrown to the pavement.
The three pedestrians, a 74-year-old male, a 43-year-old female, and a 4-year-old female, were all transported to a local hospital where they were treated for their minor injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck, 19-year-old Abram HIEBERT of the Municipality of North Perth was arrested and has been charged with “dangerous operation of a motor vehicle”, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He was released on an Appearance Notice and will have to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Listowel on December 21, 2016, where he will answer to the charge.
