Joseph NEWTON – Drugs

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On November 18, 2016, at around 10:44 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 108 at Esten Drive South.

As a result of the investigation, the female driver and male passenger were arrested and the vehicle was searched. Police found numerous prescription pills and drug related paraphernalia.

Uniform members and the Community Drug Action Team (CDAT) were involved with the investigation.

The passenger, Joseph NEWTON, 57 years of age, of Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:

Possession of a Schedule I Substance – contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Fail to Comply with conditions of Undertaking, contrary to section 145(5.1) of the Criminal Code

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, Ontario on January 3, 2017.
