Northumberland Weekend News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 156 incidents this past weekend, here are some examples:

Dec 9:

A bailiff advised police that he would be re-possessing a vehicle at a Hamilton Twp residence which was completed without incident or police involvement

A private investigator notified police that he would be in a certain area of Alnwick-Haldimand Twp for the day in the event of any suspicious persons calls.

Police responded to a family dispute in Colborne involving a parent and an adult son. As a result of the investigation the parent was charged with Assault and Failing to Comply with a Probation Order. He was held for a bail hearing scheduled on December 10, 2016.

Dec 10:

Police intervened in two family disputes both between a father and an adult son. One in Trent Hills involved an intoxicated son who agreed to spend the night elsewhere and the other in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp involved ownership of a cat resulting in the family pet remaining at the home. No charges resulted in either investigation.

Police were notified of an ongoing issue with vehicles racing and causing damage in Mount Hope Cemetery in Brighton. Officers will be conducting extra patrols in the area with zero tolerance to offences.

Officers conducting a Festive RIDE program on County Rd 50 in the Campbellford area at 3:00pm stopped a blue Honda Civic. The driver, who had been drinking, was arrested and taken to the Campbellford detachment for further tests. As result of these tests, David BAKER age 56 of Marmora, Ontario is charged with Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood and Possession of a Schedule II substance – cannabis resin – over 1 gram. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on January 11, 2017.

Dec 11:

Police responded to a report of several youths fighting on Church St in Warkworth at 1:30am. All was quiet when officers arrived and assurances were made that parents would supervise the remaining youths who were at a house party. No further calls were received.

Police were called to a Hastings residence at 4:00am when adult partygoers started fighting amongst each other. Some of the guests had left prior to police arriving which had calmed things down. Alcohol was a factor in the escalation of events and no charges resulted.

Officers investigated a domestic dispute at a Port Hope residence involving care of the couples’ dogs. Both persons were already separated from each other and no charges resulted.

Northumberland OPP officers also investigated eight accidental 911 calls, 24 motor vehicle collisions, 31 traffic related complaints and conducted 30 RIDE programs over the weekend.
