(Wingham, North Huron) October 6 is “Debate” Night.
Four candidates are running to become the next Reeve of North Huron, and voters will have an opportunity to hear them face-to-face at the Reeve Candidates Meeting/Debate, Tuesday, October 6 at 7:00 p.m.
IMPORTANT VENUE CHANGE: The event has been moved from F.E. Madill to the new Wingham Maitland River Elementary School.
There is no shortage of issues to put before the candidates: high property taxes, homelessness, Pride flags and the role of municipal government, the public’s right to question council, freedom of expression, and the controversial question: Do White Lives Really Matter?
Candidates should be prepared to explain what they believe, what they have done, and what they intend to do.
Incumbent councillor Mitch Wright has served during the current four-year council term. Trevor Seip previously served eight years on North Huron council. Their records — along with the ideas and records of the other candidates — are fair game for voters to examine.
If voters want change, change ultimately happens at the ballot box.
And if you keep repeating the same political behaviour while expecting different results, perhaps North Huron has developed a new condition:
Post Democracy Stress Disorder — PDSD.
This meeting isn’t just for North Huron residents. People from across Huron County are encouraged to attend, listen to the candidates, hear the questions and see municipal democracy in action.
Tuesday, October 6 — 7:00 p.m.

Show up. Listen. Ask questions. Make up your own mind.
