Youths Apprehended During Curfew Hours

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Sunday September 07, 2014 at 3:16 a.m. a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed two female youths walking along Main St. West near Wallace Ave North in Listowel. The officer discovered they were carrying bottles containing alcoholic beverages, and that they were under fifteen years of age.

The girls, both residents of Listowel were apprehended and transported to the North Perth OPP Detachment in LIstowel. The parents of the girls were contacted, and attended the detachment to pick up their daughters.

The girls and their parents were warned about the alcohol possession. The alcohol was confiscated by police and will be disposed of. Upon handing the girls over to their parents, the officer informed them that he was enforcing a provincial curfew under authority of the provincial Child and Family Services Act. This curfew states that; children under the age of 16, found in a public place or in a place of public entertainment between midnight and 6 a.m., without an authorized responsible adult, will be picked up by police. The parent or guardian will then be contacted to retrieve the child.

Parents, the onus is on you to know where your children are at all times, and if they are staying at friends, be sure this is communicated between parents so you know this to be the case.
