On May 21st, 2015 at approximately 9:45 am a 40 year old Innisfil female was arrested and charged on five counts of Child Abandonment in the area of Mary Street south and Dunlop Street, in the City of Barrie.
A City of Barrie By-Law Enforcement Officer was checking vehicles in the area of the downtown bus terminal in regards to parking infractions. At this time the officer came across a brown 2008 Chevrolet Uplander with 4 young children inside the vehicle. The officer could not locate an adult or care-giver in the vicinity. A DVD was playing inside the vehicle for the children to watch, the doors were unlocked and the keys were in the ignition.
One of the children, a 9 year old female, was left in the vehicle to care for the other children. Ages ranged from 11 months old to 3 years old.
Approximately an hour later the adult caregiver was located nearby. She explained that the nine year old female was looking after the other children while she attended a nearby appointment.
The children present were:
9 year old female from Innisfil
3 year female from Innisfil
2 year female from Innisfil
11 month old male from Innisfil
All parents of the children were contacted as well as the Children’s Aid of the County of Simcoe
The female was given a later court date in in July to answer to the five Criminal Code charges of Child Abandonment.
