Wroxeter Drunk Driver Hits Police Cruiser And Drives Across Lawns Trying To Evade Police

(HOWICK, ON) – A 21-year-old driver from Wroxeter is facing several criminal code charges following an event that took place in Wroxeter late November. On November 22, 2015, shortly after midnight, a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was stopped on Main Street in Wroxeter when he observed a Suzuki All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) with a loud muffler approaching in an out of control manner. The driver was spinning his tires and skidding out of control in the deep snow. He tried to come to a stop without striking the parked cruiser however he bumped into the front of the cruiser.

The officer got out of his cruiser and attempted to speak with the driver however the driver immediately put the ATV in reverse and fled. The officer watched as the driver drove in a dangerous manner throughout the village of Wroxeter. He was observed driving through several back-yards causing damage to the lawns. The driver then entered into a corn field off of McLaughlin Street where he ultimately became stuck in the field.

The investigating officer caught up with the driver and placed him under arrest for Dangerous Driving & Fail to Stop for Police. While speaking with the driver the officer noted several signs that the driver was impaired by alcohol. As a result the young driver was also arrested for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle. He was subsequently transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where he provided samples of his breath to an Intoxilizer Technician. Both of his tests registered over the legal limit.

As a result, 21-year-old Cody GOETZ from Wroxeter has been charged with Impaired Operation, Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Dangerous Driving, Flight from Police Officer and Trespass by Night. He was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for February 18, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Wingham. He also received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
