The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a woman following a theft investigation in Chatham earlier this week.
On September 30, 2013, police responded to a theft complaint at a business on Grand Avenue West where two women entered the store and acted very suspiciously. The employee later learned that one woman concealed a variety of candy in her purse and left the store without making any attempt to pay for the merchandise. The total value of the stolen items was approximately $23.00.
Through investigation, officers identified the woman. Around 12:30 a.m. this morning, officers observed the woman on Third Street and she was arrested.
Vanessa Vandeven, 23 years, of Barthe Street in Chatham has been charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. She was released with conditions pending a future court date.
