The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of five arrests in an Extortion and Robbery investigation.
It is alleged that:
– a 33-year-old woman welcomed two family acquaintances, both 16-year-old girls, to stay at her home for short-term periods
– the girls were asked to leave after overstaying their welcome, demanding money, and becoming financially dependent on the woman
– in April 2016, the girls attacked the woman after she refused to provide them with money
– after noticing unauthorized purchases from her bank account, the woman froze her account
– the girls, with the assistance of another 16-year-old girl, an 18-year-old woman, and a 27-year old man, also family acquaintances, forcibly confined and drove the woman to a number of financial institutions to obtain loans
– an employee notified police to the suspicious interaction
– police tracked them down at another financial institution and made the arrests
The first 16-year-old girl, of Toronto, is charged with:
1) Assault Causing Bodily Harm
2) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Under ($5000)
3) Robbery
4) Forcible Confinement
5) three counts of Extortion
The second 16-year-old girl, of Toronto, is charged with:
1) Assault Causing Bodily Harm
2) Robbery
3) Forcible Confinement
4) three counts of Extortion
The third 16-year-old girl, of Toronto, is charged with:
1) Robbery
2) Forcible Confinement
3) three counts of Extortion
Alexandria Batchelor, 18, of Toronto, is charged with:
1) Robbery
2) Forcible Confinement
3) three counts of Extortion
Gilbert Monney, 27, of Brampton, is charged with:
1) Robbery
2) Forcible Confinement
3) three counts of Extortion
The Young Persons appeared in court at 311 Jarvis Street on Thursday, April 14, 2016. Their identities cannot be disclosed under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The adults appeared in court at College Park on Thursday, April 14, 2016.
