On July 24, 2013 a woman attended the criminal courthouse on Grand Avenue West in Chatham. She met with a social services worker in the main hallway of the court building. During the meeting, the woman stole a cell phone from the social services worker. The incident was later reported to the police and was caught on security video. Officers attempted to locate the suspect and a warrant was issued for her arrest.
At about 8:15 p.m. yesterday, police were called to Wal-Mart on St. Clair Street in Chatham in response to a theft. A woman had been apprehended by store security for stealing items totaling over $500. The woman was arrested and further investigation revealed that she had also stolen items from the Real Canadian Superstore. She was searched incident to the arrest and an officer located a syringe containing Hydromorphone.
A 27-year-old Wallaceburg woman has been charged with three counts of theft under $5000, three counts of possession of property obtained by crime, and possession of a controlled substance. She remains in police custody pending a bail hearing later today.
