Winter Storm Warning For Wingham & Blyth – 20cm of Snow/Ice Pellets Expected

5:07 AM EST Wednesday 24 February 2016

Winter storm warning in effect for:

Wingham – Blyth – Northern Huron County

Significant amounts of snow are expected.

A moisture laden low pressure area located over Kentucky this morning will bring a significant winter storm to the region as it tracks up just south of Lakes Erie and Ontario later today and tonight then to southeastern Quebec Thursday.

Snow, heavy at times, will arrive this morning and become mixed with ice pellets and perhaps some freezing rain this afternoon and tonight. Precipitation may also try to change over to rain over southern areas tonight into Thursday morning before changing back to all snow later on Thursday.

Total snow and ice pellet amounts of 15 to 20 cm are quite likely across the regions by Thursday afternoon.

Brisk east to northeast winds may also result in occasional blowing and drifting snow in exposed areas, contributing to hazardous travelling conditions.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.

Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.
