(KINCARDINE, ON.) – Winter has arrived in Southern Bruce County, with a vengeance, causing roads to be closed. The South Bruce OPP want to take this opportunity to inform the public about road closures.
When there is a serious risk to people or property, the police have the authority to close a road in the interest of public safety. Travelling on a closed roadway is not only unsafe, it’s against the law. Anyone caught driving on a closed road is subject to a $110 fine and 3 demerit points, but the risks are far greater than that.
If you decide to travel during a severe winter storm and get stuck or stranded, emergency personnel must risk their personal safety to try and rescue you. If you can’t see where you’re going, how do the emergency personnel get to you?
Do not call the police for roads or weather information; this is not a service that we provide. For roads or weather updates you can visit www.mto.gov.on.ca or stay tuned to your local radio station as they receive regular updates.
An ordinary driver reacts to the changing road conditions while a good driver anticipates problems. If you adjust your driving to the changing road and weather conditions, then everyone will get to their destination safely.
