(MORRIS-TURNBERRY, ON) – An early morning traffic stop this past weekend has led to a number of charges being laid against a young man from Wingham. At approximately 2:23 a.m. on April 16, 2016 a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer spotted a Jeep Wrangler travelling on Clyde Line in excess of the speed limit. The officer was able to stop the vehicle just as it pulled into a private drive on Clyde Line.
Upon speaking with the driver police noted the driver had been consuming alcohol and also noted there was open liquor inside the vehicle. A roadside screening test was completed and the driver registered a fail. He was immediately placed under arrest for Driving a Motor Vehicle With Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and was transported to the Listowel OPP Detachment for breath tests. He later provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both of his samples registered over the legal limit.
As a result, 25-year-old Trevor STACEY from Wingham has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Speeding and Permit Open Alcohol Readily Available to Driver. He was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for May 12, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Wingham. He also received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
