Wingham Man Arrested With Stolen Skid Steer In Bradford

(Bradford, ON) Some good detective work by a South Simcoe Police sergeant has resulted in some charges for a Wingham man.

On Tuesday, June 28, 2016, just before 10:00 p.m., the sergeant was patrolling Bradford when he saw a pickup truck towing a skid steer on a flat bed trailer. Aware that the truck was probably not large enough to tow the heavy load legally, the sergeant stopped the driver and began an investigation. The vehicle was indeed undersized, and the driver not licenced to haul a load of that size. Several tickets were issued at the time, and an investigation begun into the ownership of the skid steer after the driver’s answers did not seem logical.

After contacting an insurance company in Alberta, the officer learned the skid steer was indeed stolen in 2015. The 50 year old Wingham man has now been charged with Possession of Property Obtained By Crime, and the skid steer returned to the insurance company. The amount of the loss incurred was $35,000. The man will appear in Bradford court in July.
