You now have the power to help prevent a headline like this from coming true. As of 01Jan2016 the Ontario Ombudsman has new powers to protect the Citizens of Ontario from municipal councilors that have failed and/or abused the People.
One of our main fights has been to clear the sidewalks in winter. Town staff currently dump the snow from the road directly on the sidewalks, then only clear a few of the sidewalks they blocked. If/when someone is injured/killed due to this practice, North Huron will be held liable. Don’t worry, North Huron pays $171,722.44/year in insurance premiums, so the victim’s family will be compensated for the gross negligence of council, CAO and kelly church.
We all know that if/when a child gets killed because North Huron made them walk in traffic to get to school, the Coroner’s Report will recommend clearing all sidewalks. We no longer have to wait and sacrifice one of our Children to get council to clear our sidewalks out of latent shame. The People now have the power to get council to act, or force them to try and defend the status quo.
Cleared sidewalks will increase pedestrian safety and be an ever constant reminder to Winghamites that there is hope and change is possible.
Some reasons why you should complain to the Ontario Ombudsman regarding sidewalks.
1. It is anonymous so you don’t have to fear reprisals from NH council anymore.
2. All attempts at getting council and kelly church to clear the sidewalks have failed.
3. Council has never offered a valid argument for not clearing the sidewalks.
4. Council will be forced to defend their sidewalk position to the Ombudsman.
5. Pedestrians won’t be forced to walk in traffic to go to school, work, shopping, etc.
6. You can take pride in participating in our Democracy.
7. The Ombudsman’s sidewalk decision may have a ripple effect across Ontario, helping protect even more people.
8. The more that People complain, the higher the likelihood of success.
9. If/When someone is killed/injured due to blocked sidewalks, you can sleep with a clear conscious knowing you did everything you could to help prevent such a tragedy.
10. Everyone is entitle to fair and equal service.
11. Some streets have no sidewalks cleared.
12. Sidewalk guy drives by blocked sidewalks, refusing to clear them.
13. Trail entrances are blocked with road snow.
14. Cruickshank Park paths are blocked, preventing enjoyment of the lights and displays.
It is now your duty to complain about all issues facing North Huron. This is not being “negative” it is being proactive in fixing Wingham. The first step in solving any problem is recognizing there is one.
