Why Don’t We Lock Our Vehicles?

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) On Saturday May 18, 2013, the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Mitchell received nine complaints from residents who were the victims of thefts from their unlocked vehicles.

The thefts appear to have occurred between 1 and 4 a.m. on Saturday May 18, 2013. Three vehicles on Trafalgar St, three on St. Andrew St, one on Rowland St, one on Coulton St, and one on Waterloo St. were entered and rummaged through. Vehicle documentation was removed from a number of vehicles as well as coins and other small valuable items.

Around 4 a.m. a Rowland St. resident interrupted a male rummaging through his vehicle. He yelled at the male who ran from the scene. The male was wearing a snug fitting military style jacket he also had ankle height shoes/boots.

Residents are urged to remove valuables from their vehicles and to lock them so as to avoid these opportunistic crimes. Anyone having information about these thefts is requested to contact the Perth County OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), and you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
