WHEN A YOUNG PERSON MAKES A MISTAKE IS CRIMINAL COURT THE ONLY OPTION?

(CALEDON, ON) – Not in the Town of Caledon. When a member of the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)’s investigation leads to a young person who may be better served by confronting their victim, their actions, their community in a controlled, methodical environment, we have an option. The Caledon Restorative Justice volunteers are ready to work with the officer and guide the offender through the entire process.

When an OPP officer feels that a Restorative Justice Process is appropriate and legal criteria are met, a team of trained, trusted Restorative Justice Volunteers then designs the Restorative Justice conference. They offer guidance to the offender and their family through the process. The investigating officer, the offender and a family member or support person and the Restorative Justice Volunteers work through the entire process together, and the results are dramatic. Far from “soft on crime“ the Caledon Restorative Justice is powerful and emotionally charged, with lasting, positive effects on everyone involved.

If you would like to learn more about one of the very best pre-charge Restorative Justice programs, a program that is located right here in the Town of Caledon or, if you would like to be considered for Restorative Justice Conference training, contact Provincial Constable Brenda Evans.

Our Restorative Justice volunteers and the Caledon OPP Detachment are currently looking for new applicants.
