What Will It Take For Drivers To Get The Seatbelt Message?

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) The Perth County OPP has wrapped up its 2012 Spring Seatbelt Campaign which ran from April 14th to the 22nd. This was part of a province wide OPP campaign in an attempt to ensure motorists do their part in saving lives by buckling up.

A total of 92 seatbelt tickets were issued to motorists in Perth County during the campaign which is an increase from last spring when 69 motorists were charged. The increase is surprising since the seatbelt legislation in Ontario has been around for over 37 years.

Officers were finding that the majority of seatbelt violations occurred in Perth County’s towns and villages. Motorists appear to be under the false impression that seatbelts are unnecessary when picking up mail at the local post office or milk at the corner store. The evidence is overwhelming when it comes to buckling up and the saving of lives: Even at slower speeds seatbelts play a vital role in keeping you properly restrained and protected.

The Perth County OPP will continue to educate and enforce seatbelt legislation throughout the year because there is no doubt, “seatbelts save lives”.
