(PERTH COUNTY, ON) The Perth District Health Unit, the owners of the Listowel and St.Marys Canadian Tire Stores and the Perth County OPP have teamed up to run a campaign promoting bicycle helmet use for youths aged 12 – 17.
This program is an extension of the Perth District Health Unit “Operation Melon†which has been around since 2006. The aim of this particular campaign however, is to concentrate on the older teens who don’t see the point of wearing a bike helmet and who think it is just not a cool thing to do.
The campaign which runs until the middle of September has Perth County OPP officers looking for older teens riding their bikes wearing properly done up helmets. Officers will stop these teens, complement them on their helmet use and give them the opportunity to have their name entered into a draw for a new bike package. Two prize packages are available in the county each package includes a high quality bike, bike helmet and bicycle gear.
For the teens from West Perth, Perth East, Perth South and St.Marys, one prize package is available and it will be presented at the St.Marys Canadian Tire store to the winning teen. The Municipality of North Perth winner will be presented with a prize package at the Listowel Canadian Tire store. The draw for the winners will take place in the middle of September with the prize presentation made shortly thereafter.
If you are a youth aged 12 – 17 and you are wearing your helmet while riding your bike, why not flag down a Perth County OPP officer and ask for your name to be entered into the draw. “Don’t loose out on your chance to win!â€
