(Grand Bend, ON) – On June 27, 2015 at approximately 2:18 a.m. members of the Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received information that a male had been observed carrying and concealing a hand gun on Main Street, Grand Bend, Ontario.
Members of the OPP located, arrested and searched the male. The OPP located and seized a replica firearm and shoulder holster.
Subsequently, Stephen Shane DEBONA, 28 years of age of Mount Hope, Ontario was charged with allegedly Carrying a Prohibited Device in a Careless Manner, Carrying a Prohibited Device for Dangerous Purpose and for Carrying a Concealed Prohibited Device. He is scheduled to appear at the Sarnia Court on August 10, 2015 in order to answer to these allegations.
As defined by the Criminal Code; a replica firearm is considered a “prohibited device”. Unless authorized by the Criminal Code or Firearms Act, no persons are permitted to possess or carry replica firearms (prohibited device) in a dangerous, careless or concealed manner.
The OPP will undoubtedly focus their efforts within our smaller municipalities when an influx of guests is expected during holiday weekends. Any person(s) jeopardizing the safety of our community members and stakeholders will be investigated and vigerously prosecuted especially in relation to replica firearms! Community safety is paramount!
