On January 4th at approximately 3:30pm, the Hamilton Police Service – Vice and Drug Unit executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at the SOS Marihuana Dispensary located at 1543 King St East, in the City of Hamilton. The premise had been operating as an illegal marihuana dispensary and a police investigation determined that criminal acts had been committed in relation to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.
A search of the premise revealed cannabis marihuana, cannabis resin (Shatter) (Hash), and tetrahydrocannabinol based products all valued at an approximate $50,000.
The 45 year old male manager of the business was charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cannabis, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cannabis Resin and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Tetrahydrocannabinol.
The manager was released on a Promise to Appear in court at a future date to answer to the charges.
The Federal Government has committed to changes to laws and regulations as they related to marihuana; however, until such changes are proclaimed law, the present provision of the Controlled Drug and Substances Act in relation to the possession and sale of marihuana remains in force. The Hamilton Police Service will continue to investigate all allegations of criminal activity, including the sale and trafficking of marihuana from dispensaries.
