Vehicle Rolls After Passing Snow Plow East Of Listowel – Three Sent To Hospital

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Saturday January 24, 2015 shortly before 10 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a single motor vehicle collision on Line 86 near Road 146 east of Listowel.

Investigation revealed that a Chevrolet Impala was driving west bound in the west bound lane of Perth Line 86 following a snow plow. The driver of the Impala proceeded to pass the snow plow and subsequently lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle entered the north ditch where it rolled.

The 23 year old male driver and a 4 year old male passenger were transported to a local hospital with minimal injuries. The 24 year old female passenger was transported to hospital with major non-life threatening injuries. All three occupants were Municipality of North Perth residents.

The driver of the car has been charged with; “careless driving”, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

Motorists are urged to stay well back of snow plows so they can do their job. Never pass a snow plow! It is extremely dangerous to pass a snow plow as the blade and truck form a cloud of light powdery snow that severely restricts visibility. The road surface is always better behind the low than in front of it. Snow plows are also wider at the front than they appear to be from the rear. When you see the blue flashing lights of a snow plow, remain a safe distance back.
