Vehicle Hits Tent Full Of Sleeping Campers – Drunk Driver Charged

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – A female driver from London is facing Dangerous Driving and Impaired Driving charges stemming from an incident that took place this past weekend. Shortly after 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2015 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a campsite located at the Falls Reserve Conservation Area to investigate a motor vehicle collision involving a suspected impaired driver.

The police investigation determined the driver of a GMC Terrain sports utility vehicle drove into a Toyota Venza that was parked at an adjacent campsite. The force of the collision pushed the Venza into the tent shelter where three people were sleeping. Neither the sleeping campers nor the driver were injured.

Officers located the driver of the Terrain and the investigation determined she had been drinking alcohol and her ability to drive was impaired. She was placed under arrest and taken into custody. She was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where she provided two samples of her breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician; both of her tests were above the legal limit.

As a result, 27-year-old Courtney JAMIESON from London has been charged with: Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Impaired Driving and Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. She has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on October 5, 2015. She also received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and her motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
