Vehicle Crashes Into Hydro Pole – Two Sent To Hospital

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) – On Tuesday November 11, 2014, shortly before 9 a.m. Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were called to the intersection of Wellington Street and Henry Street in Mitchell where a collision had occurred.

Investigation revealed that a Dodge Ram pickup truck was travelling north bound on Wellington Street when it was struck by an east bound Volkswagen car travelling on Henry Street. The Volkswagen proceeded into the intersection without stopping and collided with the rear driver’s side corner of the pickup truck. The impact forced the pickup truck onto the boulevard on the north east corner of the intersection, where it struck a hydro pole. The Volkswagen came to rest on the roadway.

The 31 year old female driver of the Volkswagen as well as the 46 year old female driver of the pickup truck sustained minimal injuries and were transported by ambulance to a local hospital. The 13 and 14 year old female passengers of the pickup truck were treated at the scene. All involved persons are residents of the Municipality of West Perth.

The driver of the Volkswagen has been charged with “Disobey stop sign”.

Two hours after this collision an OPP officer was conducting patrols along Wellington Street in front of the Community Centre (where Remembrance Day ceremonies were being conducted). This location is one block south of the above noted collision scene. The officer observed a northbound car on Wellington Street drive through the stop sign controlled intersection at Rowland Street without stopping.

The 50 year old female driver of the car, a resident of Stratford was also charged with “Disobey stop sign, fail to stop”.
