(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) On Saturday evening February 04, 2012 Perth County OPP officers conducted an OPP R.I.D.E. program (Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere) in Gads Hill. Shortly before 11 p.m. officers stopped an SUV with 4 male youths and discovered that occupants of the vehicle had been smoking marihuana from a bong.
Investigation revealed that there was open alcohol and marihuana in the vehicle. Marihuana, beer and drug paraphernalia were seized. Two of the males were arrested, brought home, and released into their parent’s custody. These 16 and 17 year old males will be entering the Youth Diversion Program. The 17 year old driver of the vehicle had been charged with “driving a motor vehicle with open containers of liquorâ€Â.
From Friday evening February 3rd to Monday morning February 6th the Perth County OPP conducted 8 R.I.D.E. programs throughout the County. This resulted in numerous drivers being ticketed for miscellaneous offences while two drivers registered a blood alcohol concentration from .05 – .08 on a roadside breath tests. These two drivers have lost their drivers licence for 3 days.
The Perth County OPP is reminding motorists that regular R.I.D.E. programs will be conducted throughout the year as part of the OPP’s committed effort to reduce the tragic loss of life and injury on Ontario’s roads due to impaired driving.
