(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) On Saturday March 14, 2015, shortly after 2 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a serious collision on Line 32 west of Road 145 (between Sebringville and Mitchell).
Investigation revealed that a Pontiac minivan was being driven west bound on Line 32. The van veered onto the north shoulder, steered back onto the roadway, and skidded sideways down the road. The van left the road and struck a hydro pole on north side of the road. The impact snapped the hydro pole and caused the van to roll onto its roof. Live hydro wires came down upon the vehicle hampering access to the single occupant of the van who was trapped. Hydro One employees rushed to the scene and cut power to the line, allowing West Perth Fire Department personnel to safely extricate the driver from the vehicle.
The 19 year old female driver, a Municipality of West Perth resident, was transported by air ambulance from the scene. She has been taken to a London Hospital and is being treated there for her major injuries.
Line 32 between Road 145 and Road 150 was closed until 5 p.m., allowing for the extrication of the driver, the removal of the vehicle and a safe investigation of the crash.
