Brampton – Investigators with the Major Collision Bureau are appealing to the public for their assistance in solving a fail to remain motor vehicle collision which occurred on Thursday August 25, 2016. The collision occurred on McLaughlin Road south of Steeles Avenue in the City of Brampton when a 26 year old female cyclist was struck by a southbound vehicle. The cyclist suffered very serious injuries and remains in hospital.
Forensic evidence recovered at the scene has led investigators to believe that they are looking for a red Honda Fit. This vehicle will have damage to the front end, possibly the hood and will have had damage to the windshield.
Police are appealing to the public for assistance in locating this vehicle. Members of the public are being asked to report any red vehicles with new front end damage that have been seen in their neighbourhoods.
Sergeant Peter Duivesteyn of the Major Collision Bureau said, “There is no doubt that the driver of this vehicle is aware they were involved in a collision and likely panicked before fleeing the scene. We would like to hear from this individual.”
Police are also seeking the assistance of local auto body repair shops that may be completing repairs on a red Honda Fit with front end and hood damage. Police are interested in inspecting any such vehicles.
Staff Sergeant Gary Carty confirmed, “Panic is often the motivation to leave the scene of a collision. We are appealing to the driver to do the right thing and turn yourself in, it is not too late.”
This investigation is continuing.
