Update: Ottawa Police investigating an additional south end robbery

(Ottawa) The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit is investigating an additional robbery that has occurred in South Keys,

On November 25, 2013, at approximately 6:20 am., a lone female, age 58, exited a bus and left the South Keys transit station on foot. She was walking toward the stores when she was accosted from behind by a lone male suspect. The suspect grabbed her and made a demand for money. The victim was able to break loose and flee. She dropped her purse and when located afterward, the suspect had removed a quantity of cash. There were no physical injuries.

The suspect is described as being a male, with a darker or tanned complexion, 5”4”-5’6”, 20-25 years of age, wearing a dark jacket and dark pants.

The link to any of the other south end robberies since October 31 is part of the ongoing investigation.

“We feel there are people in the community aware of who is responsible for one of more of these robberies and we appeal to them to contact us.”
said S/Sgt. Michael Haarbosch, Robbery Unit. “Crimestoppers is completely acceptable if people are hesitant to contact us directly.”

In recent weeks, Ottawa Police has:
Increased presence of Neighbourhood, Patrol and Traffic officers in the area including foot patrols along the pathways and parks.

Advised the community of the robberies and provided safety tips.

Conducted Crime Prevention Presentation for Women with Community Police Centre Officers.

Held a Neighborhood Watch meeting to offer information on crime trends.

A community meeting with Councillor Diane Deans has been arranged for November 27th at 7:30 p.m. at the Greenboro Community Centre to discuss the issues related to the robberies.

Community Police Centre Officers will continue to educate residents about Personal Safety and provide them Safety Tips in regards to personal robberies and swarmings.
