Update: Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision

The Chatham-Kent Police Traffic Management Unit is still investigating the collision that occurred today at approximately 10:00 AM on Queen’s Line east of Dillon Road. A pick-up truck and a tractor-trailer collided, head-on, and the two vehicles came to rest off the roadway. The pick-up truck had left its’ lane and was travelling westbound, in the eastbound lane of the roadway, at the time of the collision. The pick-up truck caught fire and although passers-by stopped to assist they were unable to free the driver from the truck. Chatham-Kent Fire Department trucks attended and extinguished the blaze. This driver, a 37-year-old man from Chatham-Kent, was pronounced dead at the scene by a coroner.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to Public General Hospital, in Chatham, by ambulance, and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The Chatham-Kent Police would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the families involved in this collision. Members of the family of the deceased driver have requested that we not publish his name and the Chatham-Kent Police will be honouring that request.
