On the 4th of June 2016, Halton Regional Police Service attended the Syl Apps Youth Centre located in Oakville in response to a disturbance within the facility. Halton Police were able to restore order in a timely manner.
As a result of the disturbance five youth and one staff member were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The staff member was treated and released with minor injuries.
The youth involved in the disturbance have now all been discharged from the hospital. As a result of this incident four youth have been charged with the below offences:
Assault Cause Bodily Harm
Assault with a Weapon
Forcible Confinement
Mischief Over $5000.00

Disturbance at Oakville Youth Custody Centre
Halton Regional Police Service were called to the Syl Apps Youth Centre at 475 Iroquois Shore Rd in Oakville on June 4th 2016 at 2:00 pm to assist staff in controlling a disturbance involving a number of in custody youths.
Police were able to quickly restore order and ensure the safety of all the staff and inmates.
As a result of the disturbance 5 inmates and 1 youth worker were taken to hospital for treatment. The youth worker was treated and released for a minor injury, the five youths remain in hospital for treatment.
The 20 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau is investigating the incident and charges are pending.
The Syl Apps Youth Centre is a 120,000 square foot facility capable of housing 48 youths. The Centre provides treatment and counseling for both custodial and non-custodial residents. The Centre is a secure facility.
