(NORTH HURON, ON) – Failing to stop for police has led to numerous charges for a 25 year old from Huron East. Police arrested the fleeing driver yesterday morning just north of Blyth on London Road. The fleeing driver was arrested by police after he collided with a civilian vehicle that had pulled over for the police vehicles.
The fleeing driver attempted to escape on foot but was caught by police a short distance away from the collision scene. Police searched the driver and vehicle incident to arrest and located stolen property and drugs.
Officers found the accused to be in possession of a quantity of cannabis marihuana and methamphetamine. In addition, he was in possession of a stolen 12 gauge shotgun, ammunition, tools, identification, vehicle documents and banking documents.
Further investigation determined the accused was responsible for three break, enter and thefts that took place during the last week. A business was entered on Allboro Line in Central Huron, a garage and adjacent shop were entered on London Road north of Londesborough and a residence was entered on Westmount Line in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh. In addition, he is facing possession of stolen property charges in relation to four thefts from vehicles.
Additional checks by police revealed the driver is currently serving a probation sentence.
As a result, Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged 25 year old Justin STRUTHERS from Huron East with the following offences:
Flight from Police
Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
Occupant of a Motor Vehicle Knowing There was a Firearm Inside
Possession of a Firearm Obtained by Crime
Two counts of Possession of a Firearm Contrary to a Prohibition Order
Two counts of Break and Enter a Place and Steal a Firearm
Break and Enter a Place and Commit an Indictable Offence
Five counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
Four counts of Failing to Comply with a Probation Order
Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana
Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine
The accused attended court this morning at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. He has been remanded into custody with a court appearance scheduled for Goderich on February 10, 2014.
