Unlocked Vehicle And Firearm Stolen From Clinton – Suspect At Large

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers continue to investigate a recent theft of an unlocked Dodge Ram pickup truck. On Friday, January 6, 2017 around 12:30 p.m. Huron OPP officers responded to Clinton to speak with the owner of the pickup truck.

Officers learned the owner parked his 2005 Dodge Ram near the intersection of Rattenbury Street and Albert Street while he went inside to eat at a restaurant. The owner returned to his vehicle within twenty minutes to find his unlocked vehicle had been stolen. Also stolen from the truck was the owner’s wallet, some hand tools, a .223 calibre Tikka rifle with a black synthetic stock and four boxes of .223 calibre ammunition.

Approximately four hours later the stolen pickup truck was located by the owner in Huron East stuck in a snow bank on McDonald Line near St. Michael’s Road. The firearm and ammunition were not recovered.

Police received information that the suspect male is a Caucasian, approximately 5’5” in height and was wearing black overalls and a black & grey hoody.

Owners are reminded to always secure their vehicle when it is not attended. Firearm owners are also reminded of the following:

Restricted and Prohibited Firearms must be unloaded and a secure locking device must be attached to the firearm and the firearm must be locked in a sturdy, non-transparent container, the bolt removed and locked in the trunk.

Non-restricted firearms need to be locked in the trunk. If the vehicle does not have a trunk or lockable compartment put the firearms and firearms containers out of sight inside the vehicle and lock the vehicle.
