The Brantford Police Service in partnership with the SPCA are seeking assistance from the community in identifying the owner of a Rottweiler dog that was in Mohawk Park on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at approximately 2:45 p.m.
On Saturday, March 12, 2016 at approximately 2:45 p.m., a Brantford woman was at Mohawk Park with her 1 year-old daughter playing in the grass when an unleashed Rottweiler dog came up to the child and started nipping and biting at her. The dog bit the child in the leg and buttocks area, partially breaking the skin. The owner of the dog then took the dog and left the area without identifying herself. A Brantford Police Community Patrol Officer spoke to witnesses however, the owner was not identified.
The owner is described as a white female in her 40’s, approximately 5’6”, having a thin build and short dark hair. She was wearing a black jacket with a pink hood and blue jeans.
Under the Dog Owners’ Liability Act, the owner of a dog is liable for damages resulting from a bite or attack by the dog on another person or domestic animal.
The Brantford Police remind the public that according to the City Of Brantford By-Laws, all dogs must be on a leash and in control of the owner unless in a designated leash free park.
