(Ottawa)- The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has laid charges in relation to the overnight robbery of a taxi driver and a break & enter.
On September 9, 2013, at approximately 1:00 am, a taxi driver picked up a fare along Elgin Street and was asked to deliver him to an address along Irving Avenue. Once on Irving Avenue, the suspect became argumentative with the driver and the suspect exited the cab. The driver was then threatened and a demand was made of him for money. The suspect attempted to assault the taxi driver with a bottle. The driver provided an undisclosed quantity of cash and the suspect then attempted to leave the scene in the taxi. At that point, the taxi left the roadway and struck a tree, causing minor damages.
The suspect then fled to a nearby address where he forced entry, and threatened the occupant. The suspect was restrained by the occupant, and was arrested by responding patrol officers a short time later. As officers were making the arrest, the suspect resisted and an officer was assaulted. The taxi driver sustained minor injuries as a result of this incident. The officer was uninjured.
Tyler PRETTY, age 25 of Ottawa, is charged with robbery, assault with a weapon, theft of a motor vehicle, break and enter, uttering threats, resisting a police officer, and assault police. He will appear in court on September 9, 2013.
